The Cemetery Restoration & Preservation Association (CRPA) has begun restoration of the Apple Cemetery near Baxter, Putnam County, Tennessee. First order of business was to get the tall weeds out. As you can see from the first pictures in the gallery below, this has been completed. Much more to be done.
UPDATE: 6 Oct 2025 Progress continues on this restoration. A new 8-foot gate has been hung. Two of eight broken tombstones have been repaired.
Remaining work includes repairing six more tombstones, filling several ground hog holes, raking and removing branches and dead weeds, leveling tombstones, aligning tombstones in a straight line. Then, finally, sowing grass hopefully before winter.
UPDATE: 11 Oct 2025 Only one more (of 8) tombstones left to repair. Ground hog holes are all filled in. Progress is slow but we are getting there.
UPDATE: 16 Oct 2025 Progress continues. Still to be done: Shovel high spots into the low spots, rake and remove branches and dead weeds, level and align tombstones. Finally, sow grass.
UPDATE: 13 Nov 2025 Gunner's crew did a follow-up effort today and removed about 90% of the remaining debris and burned it. Much improved. Still needs a little more polishing before sowing grass. Also, we can now proceed with leveling and aligning tombstones. Today's pictures are added to the photo gallery below.
RESTORATION COMPLETED ON 3 Apr 2026. All tombstones repaired and cleaned. Fair stand of grass which will need mowing soon. Looking forward to a neat, clean, green, cemetery.
