The Cemetery Restoration & Preservation Association has now been in existance for a little over four months. Amazingly, in this time they have cleaned up (restored) seven cemeteries and have two more in progress. Under the leadership of Anna Allison-Burgess, much progress is being made in realizing the Association's vision.
VISION: The vision of this group is to restore and preserve neglected and abandoned cemeteries in our area. These cemeteries contain graves of people whose stories are being lost to time. Their stories deserve to be told, and their resting places deserve to be maintained.
Cemeteries that have been "cleaned up" include:
Martha Herron Cemetery
Ellis Cemetery
Apple Cemetery
Ditty-Fergus Cemetery
Cole Cemetery #1
Robinson Hill Cemetery
Silver Point Cemetery
In Progress
Farmer Cemetery
Allison-Kemp Cemetery
Cleaning up means getting all the brush, briars, trees and other undergrowth off the grounds. After that, there is still "polishing" to be done. Polishing includes repairing, aligning, and cleaning of tombstones and filling in sunken spots.
Your help would be greatly appreciated. The tasks that need to be accomplished to continue the work include easy as well as difficult work. Please let Anna know what you are willing and able to help with. She may be reached at 931-349-9669. We also take donations that may be assigned to a specific cemetery for continued preservation.
You may also wish to check out the CRPA and Cemeteries tabs at the home page for more detailed information.
