Corporal, Company E, 4th Tennessee Infantry, USA

23 Oct 1847-31 Jul 1848

We are not sure who Almorean's parents are. Some on the internet claim his father was a John Sutton. Some claim him as James. It does appear his mother's first name was Sarah. Almorean could have been born on Indian Creek in Smith County, Tennessee, however, I find no documentation ascertaining that fact. The family did arrive here from North Carolina in the early 1800s and are in the 1850 census, District 13, Jackson (now Putnam County). After the war with Mexico, he married Elizabeth Lee, the widow of William Roberts, Joseph's son. Elizabeth is the daughter of Richard Joseph Lee and Mary Stacy. They had five children between 1851 and 1860.

Almorean enrolled in Carthage and was mustered in at Nashville on 23 Oct 1847 and was mustered-out in Memphis on 31 Jul 1848. He was promoted to Corporal on 29 Mar 1848 upon the death of J. C. Dillard, a Smith County native. His service record shows present for all roll calls and no absences for sicknesses. He was fortunate in this regard because after landing in Veracruz, many of the soldiers got sick along the way and many died before reaching their destination. Almorean obviously survived and made it home.

Almorean and his wife are buried in the Richard Lee Cemetery in Boma, Putnam County, Tennessee.
