Company C, 1st Tennessee Mounted Infantry, USA
21 Oct 1863-13 Dec 1864
Ezekiel is the son of Andrew "Drury" Maynard and Elizabeth "Betsy" Williams. He chose to use a different spelling for his surname, Mainard. He was married three times and had children by all three. His first marriage was to Mahala Angeline Burton, daughter of Charles C. Burton (also a member of the 1st Tennessee Cavalry) and Sarah Dyer on 5 Feb 1865 in DeKalb County, Tennessee. Ezekiel and Angeline had five children from 1865 to 1880. Angeline's father, Charles, died while in service of an accidental gun shot wound on 28 Apr 1864. Angeline died on 8 Dec 1882 in DeKalb County. The following year, 1883, Ezekiel married Nancy Ellen "Nannie" Barr, daughter of Jacob Crockett Barr and Hixey Adeline Martin. Nannie's father, Jacob, was also in Company C, 1st Tennessee Mounted Infantry. Ezekiel and Nannie only had one child, Samuel Cornelius "Neeley" in 1884. Ezekiel and Nannie were divorced in 1885 and Neeley was raised by his Barr grandparents and went by the surname of Barr. On 3 Oct 1885 in DeKalb County Ezekiel married his third wife, Harriett Bradford, daughter of Tomas Jerry Bradford and Rebecca Kinnaird. They had one child, Charles, born in 1887.
Ezekiel enlisted on 21 Oct 1863 Carthage and was mustered in on 3 Dec 1863 in Nashville. Service records indicate he was present for all roll-calls but nothing else significant in the record until he was mustered out on 13 Dec 1864 in Carthage. His unit was certainly involved in the war and he would have been a part of it. For details review the unit history at https://tngenweb.org/civilwar/1st-tennessee-mounted-infantry-regiment/
Ezekiel applied for and was approved for an invalid pension on 30 Nov 1886. His widow, Harriet applied for and was approved for a widow's pension on 20 Dec 1907.
Ezekiel, his first wife Mahala and 3rd wife, Harriett are buried in the Maynard-Williams Cemetery in the Ozion Community of Putnam County, Tennessee. His second wife, Nannie, is buried in the Odd Fellows Cemetery in Baxter
