Joseph R. Allison is the son of James S. "Wooden Head" Allison and Mary Whitefield. He may have married a Harris woman but no documentation has been found as of this date. No children of Joseph have been documented.

Our record of Joseph's service is scarce. Joseph's military record consist of only one page. Attached below.

Joseph also has a military tombstone which further certifies his service. The U.S., Civil War Soldier Records and Profiles, 1861-1865 indicates that he "died of disease" but gives no further details.

Joseph is buried in the Allison-Kemp Cemetery near Ditty, Putnam County, Tennessee. He is next to his grandfather, John Robert Allison Jr., a Revolutionary War Veteran.
