James is the son of Moses Whitehead and Mary "Pollie" Brown. He married Louisa Jane Brown on 23 May 1866 in Putnam County, Tennessee. Mary is the daughter of Jesse Brown and Mary Jane Julian. They had three kids from 1867 to 1871.
James service record is somewhat confusing. There appears to be two James Whiteheads. It is difficult to tell which one is our James. You can read and decipher for yourself in the below attachment of his service records.
James is buried in the what was called the Taylor Cemetery when I was a boy. James tombstone is the only one with a name engraved. There used to be several limstone rocks but those seemed to have disappeared over the years. On Find-a-Grave the grave is noted as James Madison Whitehead Gravesite. His wife, Louisa, is buried in the McBroom Cemetery in Bloomington Springs, Putnam County, Tennessee.
