Henderson was the son of William "Billy" Thomas and Sarah Elizabeth Green. He married Emaline Herron in 1854. Emaline's parents were William "Billy" Herren and Mary "Polly" Medley. Henderson and Emaline had three kids from 1855 to 1872. Emaline died 12 Sep 1917 in DeKalb County, Tennessee.


Henderson enlisted on 18 Dec 1863 in Carthage, Smith County, Tennessee and was mustered in on 23 Jan 1864 in Nashville. After Henderson enlisted he was present for all roll-calls. No noteworthy events are recorded in his service records. He was mustered out 25 Apr 1865 in Nashville. The regiment was organized by Lt Col. Garrett in the early part of 1864, although a portion of the companies were not completed until the end of the year. The regiment served principally in the northeastern part of Middle Tennessee, where it had frequent and severe encounters with guerrillas. It was mustered out by companies, at different dates, from 13 Dec 1864, to 22 July 1865, by reason of expiration of term of service.

Henderson applied for and received an invalid pension on 22 Sep 1883. After Henderson died on 9 Nov 1901, Emaline applied for and received a widow's pension on 4 Dec 1901 until her death in 1917.


Henderson and Emaline are buried in the Thomas Cemetery in the Thomas Community of Putnam County, Tennessee.
