David was the son of Samuel A. Patton and Malinda Byers. Born in Jackson County, now Putnam County, Tennessee sometime in Oct 1837. David married Susan Tennessee Brassell on 21 Jan 1869 in Smithville, DeKalb County, Tennessee. Susan was the oldest child of Egbert Hickman Brassell and Mary Louise Baker. She was also a sister to the infamous Joe and Teek Brassell who were hanged on 27 Mar 1878 for the murder of Russell and John James Allison. David and Susan had nine children from 1870 to 1879.
There is only one page/tab in David's service record. It merely indicates him as being a member of the unit but no other information is extant. We do know that his service was honorable because he was later given an invalid pension and also a tombstone marker.

David received an invalid pension which he filed for in Aug 1890. His wife would receive a widow's pension after his death.
David and Susan are buried in the New Home Baptist Church Cemetery in Boma, Putnam County, Tennessee
