Andrew is the son of Moses Maynard and Nancy Alta Thomas. He married Mary Jane Herron, daughter of William "Billy" Herron and Mary "Polly" Medley. We do not know the date of the marriage but their one and only child was born about 1859.

Andrew enlisted on 24 Nov 1862 in Nashville and was mustered in on 22 Feb 1863 in Murfreesboro. His service record shows that he was present for duty except for the period of 15 Apr 1863 to 10 Feb 1864. During this period he was first listed as "deserted from camp in Carthage" and then "returned from capture". The desertion charge was vacated even though no records of being captured were provided. Nothing else significant is revealed in his service record.

Andrew is buried in the Thomas Graveyard in the Thomas Community of Putnam County, Tennessee. His wife, Nancy, is likely also in the same cemetery but there is no marker for her and I have not located any record proving this location.
