Company C, 1st Tennessee Mounted Infantry, USA
21 Oct 1863-13 Dec 1864
Andrew Jackson, who went by Jackson, was the son of Gabriel Herren and Jane Virginia Hunter. He married Catherine "Kiddy" Henley, daughter of Capel Henley and an unidentified woman. Jackson and Kiddy had four children between 1861 and 1869. They were divorced at some point before the 1880 census as Kiddy lists herself divorced in that census. Meanwhile, Jackson is in jail in Russellville, Kentucky in the 1880 census.
Jackson enlisted on 21 Oct 1863 at Carthage, Smith County, Tennessee. He was mustered in at Nashville, Davidson County, Tennessee on 3 Dec 1864. He was mustered out on 13 Dec 1864 at Carthage. He was present for all roll-calls except 24 Dec 1863 until 1 Jan 1864 when he was absent without leave. There are no other significant entries in his service record. He applied for and received an invalid pension on 11 Oct 1888. Jackson's father-in-law, Capel Henley enlisted on the same day but was mustered into Company H while Jackson went to Company C.
Interestingly, in his will Jackson leaves everything to his son Francis Marion. In his old age he was listed in the census living with Francis Marion. Also, as indicated in the will, Francis Marion had paid some legal fees in a contest Jackson was with against a Maynard. More research required here.

Jackson and Kiddy are both buried (separate tombstones) in the Dobbs Cemetery in the Ozion Community of Putnam County, Tennessee.
