Alfred was the son of Quinton Lowe and Elizabeth Williams. He married Mary Clark in about 1846. It was about this timeframe that the Lowe's migrated from North Carolina to Tennessee. I am not sure if Alfred and Mary were married in North Carolina or Tennessee. Their first child, Martha, was born on 4 Jan 1847 in Tennessee according to the 1850 census. They then proceeded to have nine more kids, 10 total, by the end of 1870. All born in Tennesee. Mary's parents were Luther Sutton Clark and Susan Whitefield also of North Carolina. Of the ten kids, two migrated to Texas and one to Kansas. The other seven populated the Lowe's of Putnam and surrounding counties.
Alfred's service records are not elaborate. At some point he was captured by Union Forces. We do not know the exact circumstances of his capture. He was dropped from Confederate rolls in May of 1862 at Corinth, Mississippi. This is probably when/where he was captured. The next notation in his official records is when he took an oath of allegiance to the United States and was released by the Union Army in Nashville on 3 Jan 1864. I have no "traditions" from the Lowe family to share. Seems his time in the war was not much talked about.
Alfred and his wife and parents share a tombstone in the Quinton Lowe Cemetery in Baxter.
If anyone has additional information, or corrections to what I have, please let me know. Thanks.
